The witness could not identify the light that moved up from ground level at high speed.
A Maryland witness at Adelphi reported watching a single light
ascend vertically "straight as an arrow 90 degrees" at rapid speed and
then disappear, according to November 26, 2012, testimony from the
Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness was standing outside at about 7:45 p.m. on November 25, 2012, facing southwest when the light was first seen.
"A white light ascended rapidly and silently at an unknown distance across the street behind my neighbor's house," the witness stated. "What I noticed in particular was how straight and plumb the object's path was. A straight-as-an-arrow, and seemingly 90-degree vertical ascent.
"It left no trail at all. I first saw it at 30 degrees above the neighbor's yard and watched it rise to 60 degrees and vanish. I was also struck by its speed. I cannot say with certainty what its distance from me was - anything from one to five miles?"
No images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on November 26, 2012. The events occurred on November 25, 2012. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Adelphi is in Prince George's County, MD, population 15,086.

At approximately 7:45 pm I was standing in front of my house, facing South West and saw a white light ascend rapidly & silently at an unknown distance, across the street behind my neighbors house. What I noticed in particular was how straight and plumb the objects path was. A straight-as-an-arrow, and seeminly 90 degrees vertical ascent. It left no trail at all. I first saw it at 30 degrees above the neighbors yard, and watched it rise to 60 degrees and vanish. I was also struck by its speed. I cannot say with certainty what its distance from me was...anything from 1 to 5 miles ???
After I saw it, I felt a bit spooked. It was not like anything Ive seen before. It seemed inexplicable, and therefore qualifying as a UFO, but then later I had to fight off a desire to forget all about it -- which seems odd, because Ive always wanted to see a UFO. I actually forgot about it until late last night, and then had to make a point of remembering it. .....that seems significant to me.
I live in an area that occasionally uses white search lights for sports events. Those lights have a beam and move characteristically in sweeping arcs. The light I saw was nothing like that.
One last thing that is a little embarrassing to include: I heard a unusual Peep-peep sound across the street after the Light vanished. It was about 40 degrees at the time -- too cold for insects or frogs. I moved to get a better perspective, and scrunched some leaves, at which point the sound stopped.
I was outside getting my cat in at the time when I saw the Light. My cat was frightened of me at first, and I have never seen him act like that before.
The whole episode is weird, with a cluster of weird aspects to it, which makes me inclined to think I did indeed see something strange...and yet, I still want to dismiss the whole thing as nonsense.
